Frequently asked questions
How do I connect the app to my amplifier?
Make sure your Rotel amplifier is connected to your home network via Ethernet and your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is on the same Wi-Fi network. Launch RAmp, tap Scan, pick your amplifier from the list and tap Connect. You can also enable Auto-Connect so RAmp reconnects automatically the next time you open it.
The app doesn't find my amplifier — what should I do?
First check that the amplifier is powered on and its Ethernet cable is connected. Then confirm your device is on the same Wi-Fi network (not a guest network or VLAN isolated from the amplifier). If it still isn't found, try entering the amplifier's IP address manually and verify that TCP port 9596 is not blocked by your router or firewall. See the Troubleshooting section below for a step-by-step checklist.
Which Rotel models are supported?
RAmp works with any Rotel amplifier that supports the RS232 ASCII protocol over Ethernet, including the RA-1572, RA-1592, RA-1572MKII, RA-1592MKII and other network-enabled Rotel models.
What is the difference between the Free and Pro versions?
The Free version lets you try the app with basic control: volume up to 14 and tone controls up to ±3. RAmp Pro — a one-time purchase — unlocks the full volume range (0–96), full bass & treble control (±10), tone bypass and Speaker A/B selection. No subscriptions: buy once, use on all your devices.
How do I unlock Pro features?
Open RAmp, go to Settings and tap "Unlock Pro" to complete a one-time in-app purchase. Already bought it on another device? Tap "Restore Purchases" with the same Apple ID to restore access.
Do my settings sync across devices?
Yes. Connection details and preferences sync across all your devices via iCloud Key-Value Storage, as long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID and iCloud Drive is enabled.
Does RAmp work on Mac?
Yes. RAmp is available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac (via Mac Catalyst). On Mac, the amplifier must still be reachable on your local network.
What data does the app collect?
None. RAmp collects no personal data, requires no account, includes no analytics or tracking. It only communicates with your amplifier on your local network. See the Privacy Policy below for details.
The app shows "Disconnected" — what now?
This usually happens if the amplifier was turned off, its network cable was unplugged, or your device moved to a different Wi-Fi network. RAmp will attempt to reconnect automatically. If it doesn't, tap Scan and reconnect manually. Enabling Auto-Connect in Settings makes this seamless.
Troubleshooting guide
If RAmp can't reach your amplifier, follow these steps in order:
- Make sure the amplifier is powered on (not in full standby) and its Ethernet cable is firmly connected to your router.
- Check that your iPhone/iPad/Mac is on the same Wi-Fi network as the amplifier. Guest networks and client isolation prevent discovery.
- In RAmp, tap Scan and wait a few seconds. Some routers delay multicast/bonjour responses.
- If scanning doesn't find the amplifier, find its IP address in the amplifier's network menu or in your router's DHCP client list, then enter it manually in RAmp.
- Verify that TCP port 9596 is reachable. If your router has a firewall or AP isolation enabled, allow traffic to the amplifier on port 9596 (and 9590 as fallback).
- Reboot the amplifier and the router if nothing else works. Then relaunch RAmp and tap Scan.
- If the issue persists, contact support — see the section below — and include your amplifier model, iOS/macOS version, and a description of the problem.

RAmp is designed with privacy in mind. The app does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data about you.
Data we collect
None. RAmp does not collect any personal data, usage analytics, crash reports, or identifiers. No account is required to use the app.
Data we transmit
RAmp only transmits Rotel RS232 ASCII control commands (e.g. volume, source, power) to the IP address of your amplifier over your local Wi-Fi network. No data is sent to any server owned by us or by third parties.
Third-party services
RAmp uses Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage to sync your settings across your own devices, and Apple's StoreKit to process the optional one-time Pro in-app purchase. These services are provided by Apple and are covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. RAmp does not integrate any analytics, advertising, tracking, or social SDKs.
Your rights
Since we do not collect personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete. You can remove all local RAmp data at any time by deleting the app from your device. iCloud-synced settings can be removed via your device's iCloud storage settings.
