Frequently asked questions
Why does BoxPhone ask for Contacts and Microphone access?
Contacts are used to show and dial your people and favorites. The microphone is used only by the DTMF Decoder to detect tones live — audio is analyzed on-device and never recorded or sent.
What is a dial profile?
A reusable set of prefix + pause + suffix (e.g. an office PBX outbound code and an extension) applied automatically when you call. You can set an active profile, override it per contact, or dial with no profile.
How do the fast-call widgets work?
Add a BoxPhone widget to your Home Screen, Lock Screen or Control Center and tap a favorite to dial it with its profile. iOS always shows a final “Call?” confirmation before dialing — that is a system security step and cannot be skipped by any app.
What are the Tone Tools?
A generator for DTMF, MF and call-progress tones (with duration, twist and level), and a live DTMF decoder that reads tones from the microphone and saves the sequences. Useful for testing IVRs and PBX extensions.
Do the Phreak Museum tones actually do anything?
No. The 2600 Hz, blue box and red box tones are historical and educational only. Modern networks use out-of-band signaling, so these tones have no effect — they are there to listen to and learn from.
Can BoxPhone record my calls?
No. Calls are placed through Apple's Phone app; no app can access or record native cellular call audio on iOS. BoxPhone never touches your calls or call history.
